Alex Lowes finds 'corner entry' improvements during two-day Jerez test
Kawasaki rider Alex Lowes believes he’s found significant corner entry improvements following the first WorldSBK test of 2022.
Lowes, who was fastest on the opening day, had to play second best during Thursday’s action as team-mate Jonathan Rea set a blistering pace out front.
While still not fully fit following his injury problems of last season, Lowes was able to complete an intense 1.5 days of running - was expected to be two full days, however, the British rider elected to save a half day for later in the year.
Day-one in Jerez consisted of working on the front of his ZX10-RR machine, while yesterday’s action was predominantly about finding a better feeling with the rear.
Modifications to Kawasaki’s Showa forks and chassis settings provided the improvements Lowes was aiming for with regards to corner entry, although work on the rear needs to be focused on ‘a bit more’ in the coming tests.
"The final day was busy. We had a lot of things to try to get through today, but in the afternoon it was not easy," added Lowes.
"Some things were better and some things needed more attention, but on the electronics side the idea was to go back a few steps to go forward with some of the things I have been struggling with.
"It was good to get all that information to the guys. Now they will have to work hard before the next test to make a step forward, but it was a good test.
"On the front of the bike we made some modifications, with the Showa forks and chassis settings. It felt better, especially entering the corners.
"In the next test we will focus a bit more on the rear. I enjoyed being back on my bike, and working with the team again was good. I am more happy today than I was yesterday."
