However, late penalties for Lowes, Eugene Laverty, Chaz Davies and Alvaro Bautista saw them lose their fastest laps due to ignoring yellow flags at turn one.
Rea’s sub 1m 36s lap is also a new lap record around the Portuguese circuit, while pre race favorite Toprak Razgatlioglu moves up from fourth to third, and Garrett Gerloff fifth to fourth for race one.
Redding topped this morning’s WorldSBK FP3 session ahead of Gerloff and championship leader Rea.
Redding’s top time was also a new lap record at the time until Rea’s Superpole effort eclipsed it.
