World Superbike Portimao, Portugal - Warm-up Results
Michael Van Der Mark topped his first World Superbike session of the year in a wet Portimao warm-up from Loris Baz.
While the conditions were newsworthy alone, the bigger story to start off race day #2 at Portimao is that six-time world champion Jonathan Rea has been cleared to race.
Riders were relatively slow in joining the wet track with Rea and championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu remaining in pit lane for the first five minutes.
With ten minutes to go the entire field was out on circuit, but Pedercini Kawasaki rider Lachlan Epis suffered a fall at turn eight.
Michael Van Der Mark was the rider with the early pace as track conditions slightly worsened. Van Der Mark led the way until four minutes to go when podium sitter in race one Loris Baz went two tenths quicker.
Van Der Mark then responded on his very next lap to go back to the top, while Rea was third, Scott Redding fourth and Razgatlioglu fifth.
The top two remained unchanged as the session came to a close, however, Leon Haslam jumped up to third late on, while Michael Rinaldi split Rea and Razgatlioglu in sixth.
