Jules Cluzel has topped the times during the late charging in the drying opening free practice session at Aragon from World Supersport title rival Lucas Mahias.
After a wet start to FP1 due to overnight rain, the times rattled down with the conditions improving throughout the session as Cluzel put his NRT Yamaha on top with a 1m 59.586s. Defending World Supersport champion Mahias was the only other rider to break into the sub-two minute mark but could only take second behind his fellow countryman for GRT Yamaha.
Mahias was closely followed by teammate Federico Caricasulo while European Supersport rider Eemeli Lahti halted the Yamaha domination on his Suzuki with an impressive fourth place in FP1.
Niki Tuuli kept his Finnish countryman is close company in fifth for CIA Landlords Insurance Honda as the gaps began to stretch out due to conditions further down the order. Ayrton Badovini held sixth place for MV Agusta ahead of Thailand race winner Randy Krummenacher while Kenan Sofuoglu’s injury replacement Sheridan Morais impressed with eighth place for Puccetti Kawasaki.
Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha) and Micahel Canducci (GoEleven Kawasaki) completed the top ten contenders in a World Supersport field bulked by the arrival of the European class riders.
