Sandro Cortese has produced a World Supersport lap record at Assen to take a second pole position in the space of a week for Kallio Racing Yamaha.
The German rider secured his maiden pole and race victory last time out at Aragon and looks a strong contender to repeat the feat with an impressive qualifying performance at Assen. The former Moto3 world champion notched up a 1m 37.799s with his final flying lap which remained unmatched despite defending World Supersport champion Lucas Mahias’ best effort but he was over a quarter of a second behind.
With Mahias having to settle for second place on the grid, MV Agusta’s Raffaelle De Rosa cut down the Yamaha dominance to take the final spot on the front row of the grid with Jules Cluzel on the NRT Yamaha’s heading up the second row.
Profile Racing Triumph’s Luke Stapleford secured the middle of the second row in front of Randy Krummenacher, who had set the pace on Friday practice for Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha.
Federico Caricasulo heads up row three for GRT Yamaha ahead of CIA Landlords Insurance Honda’s Niki Tuuli and Puccetti Kawasaki stand-in rider Sheridan Morais with Kenan Sofuoglu still out injured.
Team Lorini Honda's Kyle Smith was shuffled down to tenth on the grid late on by Morais with local rider Rob Hartog and Puccetti Kawasaki’s Hikari Okubo rounding out the fourth row.
