WorldSSP championship leader Dominique Aegerter fends off Randy Krummenacher and Philipp Oettl for warm-up top spot.

Aegerter, who starts today’s race from second, took over from the German midway through the session and kept his place at the top despite a late effort from Manuel Gonzalez that looked like troubling the Ten Kate Yamaha man.

However, the Spaniard lost his advantage in the final two sectors to instead remain fourth overall.

Superpole Qualifying

Philipp Oettl claimed his first WorldSSP pole of the 2021 season after bettering championship leader Dominique Aegerter late on.

The early laps produced a provisional pole battle between Friday’s fastest man Oettl and 2019 series champion Randy Krummenacher.

That was until current championship leader Aegerter bettered both riders with a 1:42.153s.

Aegerter’s time was the best of the weekend to that point, before going even quicker with his next effort to set the first sub 1m 42s lap.

Aegerter looked set to keep provisional pole as the chequered flag dropped, however, Oettl’s final effort saw him pip the Swiss rider by -0.036s.

There were several crashes late on including first time WorldSSP rider Billy Van Eerde who suffered a fast fall at turn 12.
