Barcelona Testing - Minardi.
Shinji Nakano and Esteban Tuero were present for Minardi as they had their first test with the new M198 Minardi Cosworth powered car. Nakano drove for most of the week and expressed great pleasure and optimism for the 1998 season. There is now doubt however as to who will partner Nakano for the season as Tuero has been declined for an F1 Super Licence. The 19 year old does not fulfil the qualification criteria in terms of results and, while the F1 Commission has the right to waive them if a driver has a record judged sufficient, it refused to do so.
