Herbert Injury The Reason For Retirement

Johnny Herbert was withdrawn from the Brazilian Grand Prix as the result of
a neck injury sustained in Saturday morning's practice session.


The Englishman's Sauber-Petronas suffered a jammed throttle approaching the
130mph Turn Nine right-hander, sending Herbert into the barriers. Although
the impact was lessened by the tyre wall, Herbert's neck was jarred in the
incident, and he found it increasingly painful as Sunday's race wore
on.


The Sauber team eventually withdrew its driver with five laps remaining

The Sauber team eventually withdrew its driver with five laps remaining
when it became impossible for Herbert to hold his head up under braking. He
was finally classified 11th, but faces a battle to be fit for
Argentina.
