Loews Blow For Monaco

Formula One could be set to lose one of its most famous names, but not through the retirement of a driver or team. The Loews hairpin on the world-famous Monaco street circuit is under threat from - of all things - the whim of an hotel owner.


Palestinian wheeler-dealer Toufik Abukhatar recently acquired the Loews hotel which gave the corner its name and, for his $160 million, wishes to rename it the Monte Carlo Grand. Whether this would see the corner renamed as well has yet to be confirmed, but any such move would surely create uproar among traditionalists.
