Luca Calls For 'winning Car'.

Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo has blasted his team after the disappointment of Spa, and called for its engineers to produce a car that can run at the front.

Eddie Irvine finished a distant fourth in the Belgian Grand prix on Sunday - with team-mate Mika Salo out of the points - prompting di Montezemolo to call an emergency meeting with the team's technical staff. The boss knows that the returning Michael Schumacher will not stand for a weak car, and wants to provide both the German, and the championship chasing Irvine with machinery that can challenge the McLarens.

"If the drivers don't have a car, they can't win," di Montezemolo told the ANSA news agency, "At Spa, they didn't have the car - we all saw that. We have to believe in [winning] this championship, so I'm calling now for the fullest possible technical support for the drivers."

Irvine, who emerged as the Scuderia's title hopeful in Schumacher's absence, admits to being lucky at Spa. The Irishman struggled to get on the pace at the Belgian circuit, and counts himself fortunate to score any points at all in the face of competition from Jordan, Stewart and Williams.

"This was a bonus three points," he said, "The car was just not quick enough all weekend, and I thought we would do well to even get one point. We've been standing still while others have made progress and, if you stand still in this game, you go backwards."

Irvine also admitted that he was waiting for Schumacher to return to the cockpit - in order to help him win the F1 crown.

"I have no reason to believe that he is not coming back to help me," Irvine said, "and that is great for myself and Ferrari, as we fight for the drivers' and constructors' titles. If anyone can give McLaren a hard time it is Michael - he gets to them and I'm sure he will again. There's no better guy for doing that."
