The Finn, who is enjoying a hard-earned break at home with wife Erja, has revealed that he thinks Coulthard will be a regular championship challenger in coming seasons, and knows that the Scot will be keen to stop him taking a hat-trick of titles in 2000. Hakkinen added a second consecutive crown this season, pipping Ferrari's Eddie Irvine by just two points, but Coulthard remained a possible title outsider until the third last race at the Nurburgring.


"David will grow to be a world champion," Hakkinen confided, "and I will have to find the motivation to go flat-out to win the title again. It won't be easy, but I know it will come as it did this season."
