Mclaren: Panis' Future Looking Good.

McLaren has revealed that it is prepared to lose new test driver Olivier Panis next season if he performs well during his stay with the team.


Martin Whitmarsh, MD for the Woking team, has admitted that Panis is likely to find a regular race ride if he turns in good testing performances throughout 2000, but says that he will be pleased to lose the Frenchman if that is the case.

Martin Whitmarsh, MD for the Woking team, has admitted that Panis is likely to find a regular race ride if he turns in good testing performances throughout 2000, but says that he will be pleased to lose the Frenchman if that is the case.


"It is unusual to have a test driver of Olivier's experience, ability and pace become available," Whitmarsh said, "He wants to rebuild his racing career, and he's young enough to do so. I'm sure, if it goes to plan, he'll get a competitive drive at the end [of his stay with McLaren].


"If he goes out there and blitzes our drivers, there will be questions asked - and that will be a nice problem to have."
