F1 ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone has accused British Prime Minister Tony Blair of betraying him over the 1997 cash-for-tobacco advertising row.

Blair returned a ?1million personal donation to the Labour Party from Mr Ecclestone after it appeared that the money was being misconstrued as a bribe to ensure that tobacco advertising in motorsport received a stay of execution. The pair then apparently agreed not to discuss the issue other than between themselves.

The pair then apparently agreed not to discuss the issue other than between themselves.

I agreed not to confirm or deny anything about the donation, Ecclestone told the British Sunday Times, and they said that they would do the same. But, the next thing that happens is that Blair starts talking.

I rarely regret anything I do, but Im disappointed that Blair could not keep his word about this. I only found out by accident, and I think it is third-rate behaviour.
