Coulthard takes Euro pole.
David Coulthard sealed the ninth pole position of his Formula One career at the Nurburgring this afternoon, timing his run just right to beat both Michael Schumacher and the rain.
The Scot was the seventh man to take top spot, bumping McLaren team-mate Mika Hakkinen from first by lapping over two-tenths quicker than the Finn. Title rival - and championship leader - Schumacher just had time to further relegate Hakkinen before the weather closed in, and was forced to settle for second when a last minute flier went off course at the hairpin.

Behind Hakkinen, the second Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello took fourth, with Ralf Schumacher in fifth. A last ditch effort saw Jarno Trulli supplant Giancarlo Fisichella in the top six, with Eddie Irvine, Jacques Villeneuve and Heinz-Harald Frentzen rounding out the top ten.
