Kyalami test - day three: 10 February.

Ralf Schumacher returned to the top of the timesheets in South Africa, as Jacques Villeneuve replaced Olivier Panis behind the wheel of the sole BAR.

Schumacher, who had been displaced by Panis on day two of the marathon test, duly recovered his position on day three, setting the fastest lap of the session to date by knocking almost a second off the Frenchman's Friday time.

More hot weather allowed both Williams and British American Racing - the only teams present at the Transvaal circuit - to enjoy a full day's work, with Juan Montoya backing Schumacher up and Villeneuve taking over from Panis for his first outing at Kyalami since last season.

Schumacher's humour was further improved when he lapped a full half-second clear of his Colombian team-mate, who was still coming to grips with a circuit he had not run at prior to this test. An off on Friday also hampered Montoya's development time, but he bounced back to edge out Villeneuve by the end of the session.

The Canadian put in the most laps of the day, and was happier with the 003-Honda's performance than he had been at his last outing in Spain.
