The Finn had not been on the podium since last year's Japanese Grand Prix and since then had only picked up two fourth places (Malaysia 2000 and San Marino 2001) and one sixth place (Malaysia 2001). Sunday's was Hakkinen's fourth points finish in the Canadian GP from ten starts: in the past he has won once and had one fourth and one fifth place.

For the fourth time in his career, Ralf set the fastest race lap, increasing Williams' advantage over McLaren in this category to 8 (113 for Williams to 105 for the Ron Dennis run squad). Ferrari leads this table with 136 fastest laps.

Sixth in Monaco, Alesi finished fifth at the track which has given him his only Formula 1 win to date, on 11th June 1995, his birthday. Alesi had not finished two consecutive races in the points since 1998, when he finished fifth in Buenos Aires and then sixth in Imola at the wheel of a Sauber. The French driver has scored a total of 239 points from 192 grands prix starts.

4 the number of points scored by Pedro De La Rosa from 37 grand prix starts. The Spanish driver adds his sixth place in Montreal to the same score in Melbourne, 1999 and Nurburgring and Hockenheim the following year, at the wheel of an Arrows. Sunday's was Jaguar's second points finish of the season, the fourth from 25 grands prix starts, the first coming courtesy of Eddie Irvine.

8 the number of points finishes for Michael Schumacher from 10 Canadian Grand Prix starts. The Ferrari driver has four wins at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. On Saturday afternoon, Michael Schumacher's tally of pole positions at this track went up to six.
