After a few years in the Ford Fiesta Cup in the Czech Republic, Enge made his way through the German Formula Ford and Formula 3 Championships. Since the end of 1998, he has been competing in the F3000 International Championship. He finished the 1999 season in 11th place and 6th in 2000. He currently sits behind the wheel of a Coca-Cola Nordic Racing Team car and is a serious contender to the second position in the Drivers Championship.
Joan Villadelprat - Prost Grand Prix's Managing Director - commented: "I am very pleased that we have signed an agreement with Tomas which makes him our test driver for the remainder of the 2001 season. I have been following his previous years in motorsport with a lot of interest and he has proved to be a quick and competitive driver with an intelligent and aggressive driving style."
"He has done a fantastic job this season within the F3000 Nordic Racing Team and is in a position to finish second in the Drivers' Championship. His list of achievements let us think he could be a strong asset for our F1 team and he will have the chance to test with us for the next two days. This is an opportunity for him and the team to work together, and for us to assess his potential as a candidate to be one of our race drivers next year."
