Mild Seven Benetton Renault Sport driver Jenson Button and former World Champion Damon Hill joined journalist Tom Clarkson and Benetton test driver Mark Webber as the pair completed the final stage of their John O'Groats to Lands End cycling marathon - having travelled over 900 miles from the northern-most point of mainland Great Britain to the tip of Cornwall - arriving on Thursday November 1.

Crossing the finishing line under clear autumn skies, at the end of seven punishing hours in the saddle on their final day, Mark and Tom were in an elated but reflective mood after reaching a goal that had seemed so distant two weeks before. Welcomed at the finish line by a supporters and a surprised group of local residents, they were understandably tired after propelling themselves almost 900 miles (with over half a million pedal revolutions) from their starting point at John O'Groats in Scotland, yet justifiably proud of what they had accomplished.

Throughout the ride, the key to success was managing the psychological demands that were placed upon them, and on the final day, the team grew to include Jenson Button, Damon Hill and Benetton Human Performance Manager Bernie Shrosbree. After a gruelling and eventful day cycling through Cornwall, all three guest riders crossed the finish line with a genuine appreciation and admiration for their colleagues' achievement, which raised money for the Cancer Research charity.

"We had a great day's cycling in perfect weather," said Jenson Button. "The ride was actually pretty demanding, as this was the first time I had covered so much ground in one day, and I'm feeling a little sore. It was a real sense of achievement to get to Land's End, but most of all, it gave me a great insight into what Mark and Tom have put themselves through, and I've got real respect for their achievement."
