Mugello test - day one: 2 May.

Rubens Barrichello began his Austrian Grand Prix preparations at Mugello today [Thursday], putting his F2002 through its paces just days after dropping out of the Spanish GP.

The Brazilian was due to continue the development programme begun at Fiorano earlier in the week by Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer, but also wanted to prove to himself that his recent run of bad luck was nothing more than ill-fortune, rather than man or machine trouble.

Caught in similar conditions to those some of his rivals experienced at Valencia in Spain, Barrichello enjoyed dry conditions before lunch, when the cloud cover began to produce rain, soaking the track in the afternoon. As a result, the Brazilian managed just 52 laps, with a best time of 1min 24.117secs before the conditions closed in.

He continues the test tomorrow [Friday].
