Ferrari reveals name for 2022 F1 car ahead of launch
It will be named the F1-75 to celebrate Ferrari’s 75th anniversary when founder Enzo Ferrari fired up the engine of the 125 S for the first time in March 1947.
It’s also the first time SF hasn’t appeared in the car name since 2014.
The Italian manufacturer will unveil its new challenger on February 17, six days before pre-season testing gets underway in Barcelona.
“Formula 1, with its spirit of competition and innovation, has always been a fundamental part of Ferrari, driving the technological development of our road cars,” said Ferrari chairman John Elkann.
“This year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our first production car leaving the factory, we honour that spirit by naming our 2022 F1 challenger the Ferrari F1-75.”
Charles Leclerc will remain alongside Carlos Sainz for 2022 as Ferrari goes in search of its first title since 2008.
Ferrari enjoyed a strong 2021 campaign as it beat McLaren to third in the constructors’ championship, scoring five podiums and two pole positions.
With F1 embarking on entirely new regulations for 2022, Ferrari will be hoping to make the most of them as it looks to win the drivers’ title for the first time since 2007.
