Having opted to stand down from his Promatecme Formula Three ride ahead of last weekend's Castle Combe double-header, Irish driver Michael Keohane has revealed that he will drive an F3000 car for the first time tomorrow [Tuesday].

The 23-year old former F3 race winner will run at Spa-Francorchamps with leading FIA F3000 outfit Team Astromega, with one eye on competing towards the end of the 2003 season. Astromega, having dallied with the new Formula Renault V6 series prior to the season started, has run Tony Schmidt and Jeffrey van Hooydonk in the FIA series this year, although a question mark still hangs over the young Belgian's finances for the rest of the campaign.

The test with the race-winning team is just one of the options being looked at by the County Cork driver and, while he is delighted with the opportunity to sample one of the Lola-built cars, he is also keeping an eye on a number of alternative series, including the increasingly successful Nissan World Series. Funded by the West Cork Racing Business Expansion Scheme, Keohane has also said, however, that he may opt to stop racing this season and focus his attention on preparations for next year.
