Travis released by Penske.

Following the IRL's rejection of Penske Cars' application to become a constructor in the series next season, the Poole-based company has agreed to release its chief designer John Travis.

Over the last few years, Travis has overseen a re-engineering of the Penske team's Reynard Champcars for the CART series but, now that the team is racing solely in the IRL, there is far less scope for modification of a customer car.

Over the last few years, Travis has overseen a re-engineering of the Penske team's Reynard Champcars for the CART series but, now that the team is racing solely in the IRL, there is far less scope for modification of a customer car.

As a result, Travis, who designed some very successful Champcars under the Penske banner in the past, remains on the Penske Cars payroll, but he has been made free to seek another post where his design talents can be more fully employed.
