Moto2: Vierge confirmed at Marc VDS
Marc VDS has completed its 2019 Moto2 line-up by signing Xavi Vierge to ride alongside Alex Marquez.
Vierge, currently eighth in the world championship for Dynavolt Intact GP, will take the seat vacated by MotoGP-bound Joan Mir, as the Belgian team closes the doors on its own premier-class project.
“I’m very happy about this new project," said Vierge, currently recovering from a wrist injury in Austria. "Since I joined the World Championship, the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS team have always been a reference to follow, as their riders fight for victory every weekend. I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the team and the sponsors have given me.
"I think that the work by the teams will be decisive next year with the introduction of the new Moto2 engine, which will be new for everyone. I also have a great relationship with Álex Márquez, and I think that our teamwork could make the difference. We’re ready for the challenge.”
Team owner Marc Van der Straten added: “Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS have always had riders capable of aiming for the very top in the Moto2 World Championship, so we believe that, with Xavi and Álex Márquez, we have a great rider combination for next season.”
Vierge has taken two Moto2 podiums to date, being runner-up for Tech3 at Motegi in 2017 and again with Dynavolt at this year's Argentina round.
Current Marc VDS MotoGP rider Thomas Luthi will take over Vierge's Dynavolt seat. Both Marc VDS and Dynavolt currently use the Kalex chassis.
