Masia focused on ‘greater peace of mind’ for remainder of Moto3 season
Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Jaume Masia has had a good, but unspectacular 2021 Moto3 campaign so far given team-mate Pedro Acosta’s exploits.
Masia was hotly tipped for the championship heading into this season after making the move from Leopard Racing to the KTM squad.
And after making the perfect start in Qatar with victory in race one, the Spaniard’s season has slightly tailed off as the first nice races have gone on.
Since that victory at the opening round, Masia has just one more podium to his name which came at Mugello - second place.
Whereas Acosta has four wins - five total podiums and sits 48 points clear of his nearest challenger Sergio Garcia.
Asked to sum up the first half of this season, Masia said: "For me, the best moment was the start of the season, in Qatar. We were getting the year underway and, on my debut Grand Prix with the team, we got the victory. It was a very nice feeling and I remember it with great fondness."
"The first half of the year has not been positive. Things have not turned out as we expected, although there is still a long way to go this season and I still believe in the potential we have. That is the most important thing of all."
Being consistent in Moto3 due to the chaotic nature of racing and competitiveness of the championship, is seemingly one of the more difficult challenges both physically and mentally.
Which is why Masia is focused on ‘working with greater peace of mind’ going forward.
"In the second half of the season I will focus on working with greater peace of mind. Lately the competition has been very close, so knowing how to handle certain moments and do things differently from others will help us," said Masia.
