Updates from the sprint for the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix as it happened
Francesco Bagnaia starts on pole for Saturday's sprint race at the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix.
The factory Ducati rider, who is not riding at full fitness following a crash at the Aragon GP, set a new lap record to take pole and head the field for this weekend's racing at Misano.
He will be joined by fellow VR46 Academy members Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi on the front row.
Championship leader Jorge Martin, who is looking to extend his advantage of 23 points, endured a scrappy qualifying and will go from fourth on the grid.
Marc Marquez crashed out late on in Q2 and will start from ninth.
The sprint begins at 2pm UK time.

But the Gresini rider has come from further down the grid several times this year and reached the podium.

Interesting to see most riders getting to the grid fairly quickly, except for Jorge Martin, who looked to be having a very steady exploratory lap.
Fuel consumption shouldn't be a big issue in the sprint. But Martin, coming from fourth, will have to push quite hard early on if he wants to get into victory contention.

He showed strong race pace on Friday and feels like he's much closer to the leaders than he has been for a while.

There is a fear that Bagnaia could clear off at the front. He had strong race pace on Friday on the medium rear tyre.
But Martin was incredible on used soft rubber, which will be the preferred choice for the sprint today.

Marc Marquez is third in the standings, 70 points back of Martin, while Bastianini is fourth a further point down.
