2025 Americas MotoGP: Race LIVE!

Lap-by-lap updates from the 2025 MotoGP Americas Grand Prix

The third round of the 2025 MotoGP season takes place at the Americas Grand Prix, with Marc Marquez on pole for the third successive time.

Championship leader Marc Marquez comes into Sunday's 20-lap grand prix at the Circuit of the Americas looking to extend his 100% winning record in 2025, having scored his fifth race victory on Saturday in the sprint.

He has extended his points lead to 19 over Gresini Ducati's Alex Marquez, who maintained his 100% runner-up spot record in the sprint.

Marc Marquez didn't quite dominate the sprint as expected, having been forced into an early battle with his factory Ducati team-mate Pecco Bagnaia before being pressured by Alex Marquez again.

Still favourite to win on Sunday, the challenge from Bagnaia on lap one will be something to be wary of at lights out.

Bagnaia feels like he is getting close to the feeling he has been missing on the GP25 and put in some strong pace in the sprint, even if he had to settle for third. He noted that he needs to find more speed in the early laps in order to properly challenge his team-mate.

He doesn't think that will come on Sunday, but is confident he can battle with Alex Marquez.

Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo put in a stunning charge to sixth having run as high as fourth in the early stages of Saturday's sprint. Though not convinced his pace is good enough to be in the podium hunt on Sunday, the Frenchman will be one to watch in the opening laps.

Honda also enjoyed a strong Saturday, with Luca Marini seventh on the factory RC213V, while Trackhouse Aprilia rookie continued to impress as he went from 18th to ninth in the sprint.

Marc Marquez pegged the KTM's of Pedro Acosta and Maverick Vinales as ones to watch after qualifying inside the top 10. But severe vibration issues proved problematic for the Austrian manufacturer in the sprint.

The 20-lap Americas Grand Prix begins at 8pm BST.

15 minutes till lights out.

19:45

Aki Ajo expects this rain to pass, but they don't know how long that will take.

19:44

Quartararo is probably going to have to start on his dry bike but on wet tyres, and get his wet bike in pitlane changed over to a dry setting in the event of a flag-to-flag.

KTM's Aki Ajo says his riders are reporting sectors two and three are really wet.

19:43

Quartararo is going to the grid on his crashed bike.

19:42

The problem Quartararo has is he will need to come in for his wet bike, but will likely get stuck in pitlane - meaning he'll have to start there instead of 11th.

19:41

Jack Miller is helping his Yamaha stablemate Quartararo get back up and running on his crashed bike.

That could well prove to save Quartararo's race, as he needs to get that bike fixed in case it is a flag-to-flag.

Crash - Fabio Quartararo

Fabio Quartararo has crashed his slick bike on the sighting lap. That's a disaster!

He's gone down at Turn 3.

19:39

Pecco Bagnaia has done a lap on his wet bike and has come back in to do a lap on the dry bike. A few will do the same.

19:38

We had a full wet session in FP1 this weekend, which Marquez crashed in, while he topped the drying Practice session afterwards.

19:37

Whatever work Ducati was doing to Marquez's bike is finished. He's heading to the grid now, but both he and Davide Tardozzi looked very, very tense.

19:37

The tyre graphic on the timing screen isn't functioning properly, but there are a couple of riders heading to the grid on used slicks to assess the conditions.

19:36

Pitlane is open for the sighting lap. Looks like there's still a lot of work going on in Marc Marquez's garage.

19:35

Several riders did run slicks on the wet track in today's rain-hit Moto2 race, but the fastest lap for any of them didn't come until the final tour.

19:34

The earlier Moto2 race was run in wet conditions, though a dry line did appear towards the end of it.

Very likely every rider starts on wets for this race, providing it doesn't dry up significantly before then.

19:33

Word on the ground from Twitter user @3rdeyeopnn is that the safety car has crashed during some sighting laps.

Conditions are clearly very tricky!

19:31
Wet race declared

There are a lot of pensive faces in pitlane right now before the sighting lap and all teams are getting one bike ready for the wet.

It's only raining lightly, but the race has been declared wet by race direction. That means you can start on whatever tyres you want and can change when you want.

Race build-up

Race gets underway in 30 minutes and it is raining at COTA!
