Pedro Acosta “has qualities of Stoner and Rossi, and Marquez’s ambition”
Huge praise for Pedro Acosta from a MotoGP legend
Pedro Acosta shares key similarities to MotoGP legends, Jorge Lorenzo insists.
The Tech3 GASGAS rider has taken the premier class by storm in his rookie season.
His performances, full of bravery and talent, in the early stages of this year have already been enough to earn him a promotion to KTM’s factory team in 2025.
Three-time MotoGP champion Lorenzo identified Acosta’s crucial trait to DAZN: “The preparation, the thousands and thousands of hours he has spent riding around on the motorcycle since he was little, and on big motorcycles.
“At his age, others have half or three times fewer hours of training and preparation than him.
“I would only give him one piece of advice: be careful with crashes, a serious injury could cut short a career.
“He has qualities from Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi, the charisma.
“And also from Marc Marquez, ambition and believing in himself."
Dani Pedrosa, now KTM’s test rider, added: "Every time he has changed categories, he has recognized that he was feeling more comfortable.
“He is used to working on very small circuits with big bikes.
“Everyone at the factory is delighted with its performance, it is something that KTM needed.
“Next year, with more experience, he will reach the next level.
“In pre-season, the advice I gave him is to be careful with the tyres, this can surprise you and you end up in the hospital.”
Acosta became the third-youngest rider to finish a MotoGP race on the podium this year.
He has established himself as KTM’s fastest rider already.
The next milestone for him will be a maiden win, which Lorenzo (incorrectly) predicted would happen at Jerez.
MotoGP returns next weekend at Silverstone but KTM have endured a difficult period where even Acosta’s results have dipped.
