Second day testing successful for Red Bull Yamaha.

The second day of tyre testing has gone well for the Red Bull Yamaha team, who are in the process of chosing a tyre supplier for next season. The team ran on Michelins in 2001, along with the rest of the field in the 500cc World Championship class. But with the re-introdution of Dunlop and Bridgestone in 2002, it's decision time.

The team carried out tests at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia both yesterday and today to establish an opinion on the Dunlop tyres. McCoy was able to push the Yamaha YZR500 harder in today's tests, which has been a great help in comparing the performance of the Dunlop tyres with that of the Michelin compounds that were used last year. The Australians best lap time over 47 laps was 2mins 06.2secs. This compares to the best lap time that McCoy set at the practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix in the 2001 season, which was 2mins 05.961secs. Hopkins completed 49 laps and managed a best time of 2mins 09.5secs.

'It is quite difficult to test at a circuit when you're the only team there because with no-one else lapping in identical conditions there is very little to compare to,' said Team Manager Peter Clifford to the official MotoGP website. 'We are very happy with the work we have completed today though and the purpose of these sessions is to test the tyres, not push for amazing lap times. So far both the team and the riders are happy with the tyre performance and when we finish testing tomorrow we will sit down and come to a final decision.'
