With record-breaking ambient temperatures at the US Grand Prix expected to top well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the second day in succession, a decision has been taken to postpone all of Sunday's AMA activities until after the MotoGP main event.

"The record temperature in combination with the fresh racing surface has created a situation that could potentially deteriorate with heavy usage on Sunday," read a statement released at Laguna Seca. "Therefore in order to safeguard the racing surface, the decision has been made to postpone the activities of the AMA Superbike series until the conclusion of the GP."

The MotoGP warm-up will take place at 10.00am local time with the race starting at 14.00. The delayed AMA championship events in question are the Supersport and Superstock series.

Temperatures at Laguna Seca reached 88 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday afternoon, but by Saturday noon it was already 106 degrees. By Qualifying the temperature had cooled down to a 'mere' 102 - but with a track temperature of 148 degrees!

As an indication of the extreme heat, Crash.net columnist and Eurosport TV commentator Toby Moody said Saturday was "hotter than any day I've ever experienced at a race track."
