Alcoba: Needless to say we are looking for a repeat result at Le Mans

Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba head to round five of the Moto3 world championship in contrasting situations as Rodrigo threw away a potential win at Jerez, while Alcoba took his second ever podium in the class.
Alcoba: Needless to say we are looking for a repeat result at Le Mans

Picked by several MotoGP riders as their pre-season pick for the Moto3 championship, Gabriel Rodrigo has a mountain to climb following his crash from the lead at Jerez.

The Argentine is currently eighth in the championship on 25 points, while Moto3 sensation Pedro Acosta took another impressive win to move 51 points clear of his nearest rival with a points tally of 95.

Of his six starts in France, Rodrgio has finished just two races which were both in the last two years with a best result of fourth coming in 2019.

"We’re eager to make amends after Jerez. We probably had the best race pace and we didn’t capitalise," said Rodrigo.

"We will try at Le Mans – a track I like – to keep doing a good job like we did in Spain two wees ago, as we aim at bouncing back. I took a big hit in my foot, so I rested and I’m ready to go."

It had not exactly been a stunning start to 2021 for team-mate Alcoba either with back-to-back DNF’s in Qatar and a 14th in Portimao, however, the third place finish is his and the team’s best result of the season to date.

Speaking ahead of Le Mans, the Spaniard is aiming for a repeat performance as you would expect, but just as high on the priority list seems to be completing a clean weekend.

Alcoba added: "Needless to say that we are looking for a repeat result at Le Mans, maybe without trying our luck too hard.

"We need a very solid weekend and without mistakes. I’m yet to have one this season so I’m looking forward to try and play my cards right in the race – without being penalised.

"Last year it was a difficult weekend in which I made a few rookie mistakes, but we’re ready for the challenge this year."
