ART Grand Prix’s Anthoine Hubert won a stop-start GP3 race at Silverstone to reclaim the lead of the 2018 championship from teammate Callum Ilott.
Hubert led throughout but had to manage a multitude of Virtual Safety Car and full Safety Car periods en route to converting his maiden GP3 pole position into his first on-track victory in the series.
The Frenchman inherited the opening race win at Paul Ricard earlier this season after fellow countryman Dorian Boccolacci was excluded for a post-race infringement, but controlled proceedings at the British Grand Prix venue to seal a well-deserved victory.
He led home ART teammates Nikita Mazepin and early title rival Ilott, with the Ferrari Formula 1 youngster taking advantage of a slow-starting Giuliano Alesi to jump into third, a position he held to the finish to complete an all ART podium.
Ryan Tveter scored his best result of 2018 with fourth place for Trident, ahead of Campos duo Boccolacci and Leonardo Pulcini. Despite running with a wobbly front wing following late contact with Pulcini, Pedro Piquet took seventh.
Alesi recovered from his poor getaway to seal eighth, passing Arden’s Joey Mawson in the closing stages to snatch reverse grid pole, while Alessio Lorandi claimed the final point on offer in 10th, having charged through from the back after stalling when the lights went out.
