Berwick once again pushed forward the promotion of Youth speedway with a highly successful and enjoyable Stars of Tomorrow event sponsored by William Hill bookmakers. The ?400 first prize and the winners trophy was won expertly by Newcastle Gems' Craig Branney who ran away with the final in fine style.

Second was Sheffield's Benji Compton (brother of former Newcastle skipper Andre) with Buxton's teenage sensation James Wright in third place. The event drew good interest from a larger - than - normal crowd for a youth event, and the competitors responded with some fine racing and good entertainment.

Unluckiest riders was Berwick based Alan Ferrow who fell in his opening ride, wrecking his bike beyond repair. Equal tops after the 12 qualification heats were Craig Branney and James Wright on 11 points, followed by Benji Compton on 10 and Carl Shield on 9, and after the 2 semi final races all those 4 made the final.
