Haydon destroys helmet, escapes with bruising.

James Haydon is bruised but on the mend, following a huge high-side from his Foggy FP1 during testing at Valencia last weekend.

The young Brit's test was cut short on the final morning of the three day test, after he sustained minor injuries to his hip and elbow as he was flung in the air when his rear wheel locked - as a result of clutch problems he had been working on throughout the test.

"Although I felt a bit sore, I initially wanted to continue with the test as I didn't think my injuries were that bad, but I'm now pleased we decided to play safe," explained Haydon. "I didn't feel quite right at the time but it was only a few hours after that I realised how hard I had banged my head - I actually wrote off my helmet - and also hurt the base of my spine from where I landed heavily on my side.

"I knew at the time it was quite a big accident as I was thrown quite high in the air and unfortunately tensed up, as your instinct tells you to do. This can actually do more harm than just letting you body relax," he added. "It's such a shame - I've never cut a test short before."

"I saw the doctor and osteopath when I returned home and had a few of my muscles and joints manipulated, but I have no serious injuries - I just feel a bit tender - and with rest over the next few days I'll be fighting fit to continue with our testing programme next week," concluded the ex-BSB star.

Three further tests are planned for early 2003, before the Foggy Petronas Team makes its eagerly-awaited debut in the World Superbike championship at Valencia on 2 March.
