Belgarda stunned by Sanna's pace.

In the second day of the Valencia test, Yamaha Belgarda's Jurgen van den Goorbergh [pictured] got to within 1 sec of Fabien Foret's all time lap record of the Spanish circuit - while Supersport new boy Simone Sanna stunned in his second day of running.

In the second day of the Valencia test, Yamaha Belgarda's Jurgen van den Goorbergh [pictured] got to within 1 sec of Fabien Foret's all time lap record of the Spanish circuit - while Supersport new boy Simone Sanna stunned in his second day of running.

The Dutchman's best lap was a 1min 38.50secs effort, wet at the end of 52 laps, while 125 GP star Sanna was just 0.8secs slower after 40 laps.

Both have very little four-stroke experience, yet are getting ever closer to Foret's 1min 37.674secs lap record, and will be hoping to challenge the Honda rider's pace in their final day of testing tomorrow.

"I already feel like I know the Yamaha YZF-R6 even if I'm still not on the limit," explained Sanna, whose head-turning times were set on standard tyres. "At the moment I'm not interested in times, but naturally I'm happy with how fast I was today.

"I want to do as many kilometres as possible to gain experience and get used to the engine braking and the power of the Yamaha - which is much greater than from a 125 GP bike I'm used to," he added. "I'm not rushing myself and its all coming quite easily at the moment."

"I was convinced that Sanna was an excellent rider, but I didn't even imagine that on his second day riding a Supersport machine he would be so strong," said a delighted Belgrada Boss Massimo Meregalli afterwards. "What he achieved today was really remarkable."

"It's been a busy day," commented van den Goorbergh. "I worked on tyres, weight transfer and suspension - the team wanted feedback and I was happy to help. I think Yamaha is pleased with what I am doing, I am pleased with the work method of the team, and by working like this we can achieve a lot quickly."

"van den Goorbergh is strong: he gave us vital information regarding the mass distribution on the R6 and we are quickly recovering the time lost in the previous test dues to bad weather and the shock retirement of [race riders] Casoli and Whitham," added Meregalli.

Testing concludes tomorrow [Monday].
