Lorenzo Zanetti and Jules Cluzel have given MV Agusta the ideal start to the Malaysian round of the World Supersport Championship in Sepang by locking out positions 1-2 in FP1.

Title contender Cluzel had held the top spot for much of the session, only for team-mate Zanetti to grab the initiative in the final minutes to deny the Frenchman by just over a tenth of a second.

PJ Jacobsen and Kyle Smith flew the flag for Honda in third and fourth positions respectively, ahead of the mourning Kenan Sofuoglu, who has made the decision to compete in Malaysia in the wake of his son's tragic death just a week earlier.

Roberto Rolfo, Gino Rea and Martin Cardenas ensured Honda would make up half of the positions inside the top ten in sixth, eighth and ninth, while Marco Faccani and Alex Baldolini filled the remaining top ten positions in seventh and tenth.
