After seeing local hero Wayne Gardner take victory for the first two years of the Australian Grand Prix in 1989 and 1990 at Phillip Island, hopes were high for another home victory when the series switched to a new venue at Eastern Creek on the outskirts of Sydney in 1991.

Having suddenly withdrawn their supply of MotoGP engines for Team Roberts halfway through the 2005 season, KTM went one step further at last weekend's Qatar Grand Prix - by withdrawing their 250cc engine from their own factory team!
Byrne 'crossing everything` for Australia.
Shane Byrne has revealed he still has a slim chance of riding for Camel Honda in the Australian Grand Prix, on October 16 at Phillip Island, despite speculation that the seat will be given to WSBK star Chris Vermeulen.

The Camel Honda Team has confirmed that World Superbike star Chris Vermeulen will make his MotoGP debut, replacing the injured Troy Bayliss, at his home Australian Grand Prix.

Loris Capirossi has won his second MotoGP race in a row after beating Valentino Rossi to victory in today's Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang - but second for the Yamaha superstar was more than enough to secure The Doctor his fifth consecutive premier-class crown and seventh ever world title.

Further checks on Marco Melandri, who sustained a deep flesh wound after being accidentally rammed by Valentino Rossi during Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, have revealed no bone fractures or internal injuries.
